|David H. Montgomery|
|Portrait Artist and Marine Painter|
If you have just discovered this site, we want to thank you for making the time to find us.
We are happy to announce that David's painting of Blue Fish has won the Helen Van Wyk
Award for Excellence in Oil Painting from the Rockport Art Association.
This honor is special for so many reasons, first and foremost because Helen Van Wky has
been one of David's teachers through her books which have been a great resource and
inspiration for him.
Also, the painting represents a scene at his family's boatyard: looking into the boat shed,
you get a glimpse of boats stored for the season, including the blue fish - a boat designed
by David's grandfrather Nick and Harry Friend. Montgomery Cats have been built here since
the 1920s, in fact a new fish was just launched in early July.
The gallery is now closed for renovaton. However, you are welcome to call and make an
appointment to see David's work. And of course, the boatyard is still quite active with
boating activities and frequent visits from great white herons and other shore birds, as
well as a growing population of cotton tails!
We hope to see you at the next Cape Ann Artisan Tour over Columbus Day weekend.
Wishing you fair winds and fallowing seas,
David and Rebecca
